Rushing air sound when turning wheel
I've started to notice, with the windows up, no AC or ventilated seats on and radio off, that when I turn the wheel, that I hear an air whooshing sound coming from the steering colum somewhere. It kinda sounds like the air rushing sound from the seat coolers, but in the steering rack. This is not the same sound one gets when turning wheel full lock left or right. It sounds like air rushing through somewhere. Just a slight tilt of the wheel from 12 o'clock and I hear this faint air whooshing sound. Can anyone relate?
Haven't had time to do any real investigating yet. Maybe it's normal? I just don't seem to recall this noise. I thought I should only hear a wooshing sound at full lock. I don't think my phone would pick up the sound to post. The sound of the engine outside covers up the sound, but I can def. hear it inside.
Try lubricating the boot that surrounds the steering shaft. Particularly where the shaft passes through the boot. It is located above the brake pedal. Don't use WD40. That stuff is really meant to loosen bolts and such. Use a silicon based lubricant. It may just be the rubber boot grabbing onto the shaft as it turns. (That's what she said)
