Before I had the 430, I had a 94 LS400.

Looked similar to this:

This was before Lexus with a couple of others mixed in-between. It was a pretty fun car after I gave her 84 her more hp and a Hurst short throw shifter. Top end was surprisingly fast. Much faster then the 430 but not nearly as well designed. 400 hp is a lot of fun though. Kind of miss that.

I went from one of the loudest cars on the road:

To one of the quietest. And I get better milage and spend less on repairs. Go figure.

I have only owned a few cars as an adult that were mine to drive (as opposed to wife and kid cars).

79 Grand Prix
89 Acura Legend
99 Acura RL
2006 LS430

Here's a pic of the RL when I sold her in 2009 with 137k miles. A great car but the LS430 is vastly superior in every category but the headlights. The RL had the brightest, whitest, and most focused headlights I have ever seen on a car.

Mine is an E60 M5 which I still have.

I bought the LS430 about a month ago as a 'stag do' car (think 'The Hangover'). Me and a couple of friends will be driving from the UK to across France and down to Monaco then back up through Italy, Switzerland and Germany.

Never owned a Lexus before but can't imagine a better car for such a journey. Just struggling to get the a/c functioning properly at present.

Default Before LS430

I had a 2004 Maxima - fun, fast, stylish, and damn roomy. Before that 91 ls400 (which had the most uncomfortable drivers seat known to mankind).

I had a 1999 ES300 and that made me a Lexus convert.

The LS430 is superior in almost every way, everything is just more substantial and high quality.

I will say though the ES had a smoother ride, my guess is 99% of that was due to the 15" wheels. Also, for whatever reason, the ES had ridiculously cold AC. The LS is also strong in that department, but the ES made the whole car a "meat locker" in seconds. I've never seen AC that got that cold. Great for Arizona

I sold the ES because I was getting tired of it and wanted something different, but even at around 13 years old and 160k miles, the car seemed like new in many ways. I would recommend an older ES as a great inexpensive car to buy that is also reliable.

I just grabbed this image, not my car but almost identical

Glorified Camry with interior & trunk space comparable to the LS430. It rode terrible on JIC's. 87 octane FTW but was only slightly better that the LS in city mileage.

The LS is my second car (3rd if you count my beater civic). My first car was an 05 WRX I had for 10 years.

I think there's an option to make the A/C colder in the LS. You need a toyota techstream system to change the setting. I didn't really check it out in depth, I live in Minnesota and use the A/C about 2 months per year. But I got the impression that you can make the a/c more effective but less energy efficient by changing some setting. Ask about it next time you talk to someone with a toyota dealer tool.
