a smaller LS with close to the came comfort
The LS was too big for my needs, but I bought it, and have no regrets ....
But it's time to downsize.
I'll try an ES but its almost the same size as LS, the IS is too small.
Camry and Accord are not nice enough, I don't want to give up all the luxury.
What's the mid size equivalent of a Lexus LS430
Like to hear your thoughts.

I drove a few RLs and almost got one instead of the LS. I will try the RL again and maybe an TL
Gas is not a concern and a V6 or a small turbo could be fun ...

I would think you value RWD if you bought an LS. Always very highly rated is the 3 series BMW but maybe too small or the 5 series, drive them you will smile, the 3 might not even need a warrantee.
The A6 gets the 3.0T engine I think in 09. The 5 series has twin turbo's in the 535i. The 5 series in the 528 will get 20-28mpg all day long or better. Sport seats many gadgetry packages 528 pretty reliable also, just kind of a pooch to the LS, 535i and A6 3.0T.
I am sure MB has smaller RWD galore just never driven em. TL AWD, A5, A4.
How much ya want to spend Stu?

Smaller with same luxury = no match. The LS is a flag ship for a reason and unless you just jump ship and go 7, S or A8 class, you're not getting comparable. If IS is small, 3 is not any bigger. You'll need to compromise to go smaller, just how it is. The newer ES you are right is not smaller by much and GS isn't either. There really is almost no inbetween size between LS and IS. ES and GS are almost 80% the size of a LS.

You could consider an older LS400 maybe. Slightly smaller body on the 98-00 models with alot of the same features. Just something to think about. But in answer to your question there is no midsize equivalent to any LS.

I don't know about unequaled luxury I would put the 535i pkg'd out right up there just a midsize gearing towards having fun versus cruising. The A6 with the prestige package I would be happy with either of these or my LS, but I need the room.
What luxury you talking about, the quiet cabin, boat like ride, composed cornering to 35 MPH, only good Levinson stereo, they all have pretty good ergonomics multiway seats. The LS is sweet don't get me wrong luxury of driving a Braddington Young Leather Sofa though and many of the midsize cars won't be the A8, 7 series, LS due to their wheelbase.
There are tradeoff's either the 535 or A6 has turbo pep and they are fun, there is your tradeoff fun versus serene ride but can still be luxurius . Don't get me wrong I bought a second for the reliable luxury and pretty good MPG for a V8.
Check out some of the German midsize sedans the quality and reliability is improving. Lexus midsize up does not equate exactly to fun.

Recovering Lexus Addict
Check out the 2013+ GS. I went from my LS to the new GS w/ luxury package without feeling that I lost any luxury. It turned out that the GS was just a bit tight for my comfort.

The Altima 3.5s with the 6 has been a huge seller, the Passat tdi has been midsize car of the year I think 2 years running, not luxurius but with all the pkg's way funner than a accord or camry but still FWD.
Infinit g37 is tight but bigger than the 3 series, the M37 is RWD also both can be gotten AWD

Before I graduated to the Lexus a had a couple of Toyota Avalons... they have some great features and give you the same reliability as the Lexus,,,in my experience. The ride won't be the same as you're trading rear wheel drive for front wheel drive, reducing engine size/horsepower and some internal room.

The problem is most mid-size luxury sedans are almost exclusively "sporty". All the car companies seem to be chasing the idea of a 4 door sports car for that segment, when I really think most people just want a luxury car to be comfortable.
If you want a smaller LS type sedan with "comfort" as a main criteria, the Lexus ES is a really good pick. I owned an ES before the LS, and in many ways, it was actually a more comfortable car. It was more set up to be a Japanese Buick. I don't think the ES is too big, it's very close to the same size as a Camry or Accord.
I personally don't like the Acura TL, I have a few friends with them and have spent some time behind the wheel. I think you're better off just buying a Honda Accord with a leather interior.
