Default 02 LS430 VSC Off/Check Engine Light

I have an 02 LS430 I bought last week with 132K Miles. I had the t-belt/water pump service done as well as had all belt replaced etc and full review by Lexus of South Atlanta. A few days ago, I had an alignment done.

Yesterday I filled the tank with gas and drove home (3 miles max). Today, I went to the gym (less than 10 miles). While leaving the gym, after starting the car, I noticed that the VSC/Check Engine lights came on. When I got home, I restarted the car, lights were still on. After reading a few threads, I checked the gas cap. It was not on tight, so I re-tightened it until I heard 3 clicks. I have not re-run the car yet.

Could the VSC/Engine Light be a result of the alignment or a loose gas cap?

I will re-post if anything changes after tightening the CAP. The car was running very smooth with no vibrations, hesitations or issues.

Based on your description, its most likely the gas cap. Tighten the cap, drive the car for a while to re-pressurize the system i believe. The lights wont go out immediately but should turn itself off the next time you start the car or the next morning. If that doesnt work then check for exhaust leaks or have the exhaust system looked at.

Thanks. The gas cap was the issue.

Sorry to bump an old thread. I have an 01, and the same issue. I just replaced the gas cap and drove about 5 miles. The "VSC OFF" is light is still on with the red exclamation mark on the dashboard. What else could be the cause? I'm hesitant to try the OBD2 paperclip solution.

I did have a P1354 - VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2). I replaced both bank 1 and bank 2 solenoids, and the check engine light is now gone.

Pull the VSC code. Most likely you need to do the zero point recalibration.
