Intermittent Headlight
I am new to CL Forum. I have a 2001 LS 430 that I have owned since new and it has been incredibly reliable. Far and away the best car I have ever owned. I am having a frustrating problem with the headlights for the last couple of years. The passenger side headlight does not always come on when the lights are turned on. It is about 50/50. When it does not come on, I can make it come on by flipping the headlight switch off and on repeatedly and usually on about the 5th to the 10th time it will come on. Once it is on, it stays on for as long as the lights are turned on. It is a replacement bulb that I bought at an auto parts store (I don't know the brand). Any troubleshooting and tips and replacement suggestions are appreciated.

Was this issue there before the bulb change? If not, then perhaps the bulb is either defective or when installing you did not seat the.connector properly. Seems like something us loose rather than a problem

It is a Phillips halogen bulb. (OEM Replacement) I have checked the connections several times and just recently switched them to see what happens. So far (1 day) the problem has not resurfaced but this was not unusual before. I will give an update in a couple of days.

I have '02 LS430 and had the exact same problem with the passenger side head light. I changed the bulb and it worked for a few weeks then it went out again. It turned out not to be the bulb, but the ballast. I purchased a replacement ballast off of ebay for about $125 and had a local shop install it for $75. I believe the dealer charges about $1200 for this repair. It worked fine for about a year and then it went out again. I bought another one off of ebay and had it installed again, so far it has worked fine. I hope this helps.
