ways to preserve the ls430
In an attempt to preserve my 01 ls430 w/ 123k I am going to:
Have the dealer disable the auto power lock in drive feature. I do not lock/unlock my car when parked at home or work as they are in secure garages so why waste the actuators unnecessarily.
Have the dealer disable the tilt/telescoping action of the streering column on exit/entry because I would rather have this work and not have to spend $$ to repair it just to see it go in/out/up/down every time I start the car or leave it.
I turn off the display to the nav/dash most of the time (although it is more likely the components attached to the display that keep running anyway that will ACTUALLY FAIL rather than the display itself).
Does anyone have additional steps they can share that they do to preserve their ls430's and keep some of the things like this from wearing out?

It doesn't do any justice to the luxury. It's like: disable your ambilight of your Philips tv to preserve the LED's.
Or not using my cooling seats to prevent them from breaking. IMO just enjoy the LS. If the tilt/telescoping breaks you can always find a way fixate the steering column.
Just my 2 cents

You worry too much. That ain't a German car.

I'll agree with saying just drive it and enjoy it and be glad you don't have the payments involved with a new car that doesn't have the features the Lexus has.
Change the filters when needed and change the oil when needed and put in fuel when needed and you are good to go.
The only special care I do is using aerospace protectant 303 on the tires and dash and whatever else needs sun protection.
I also use a metallic dash protector that fits behind the front window and folds up so you can remove it to drive.
Sun will win but you can slow down it's damage to the auto.

Get the windows tinted if they aren't already.

Why buy a car with lots of nice features if you aren't going to enjoy them? Using a windshield sunshade and tinting the side windows (rely on the retractable shade for the back) are good moves.
Use the car up. It's going on 12 model years old and isn't going to last forever. I keep cars a long time compared to most people - usually 10 to 15 years - so I kind of know how to squeeze value out of cars.

I had the auto tilt/telescope feature shut off, but I'm a small guy so it was really unnecessary so I elected to avoid the extra wear and tear. If I were bigger I might have left it on. My auto power lock was not on when I bought the car used. I tend to agree with those that say just drive it - really depends on how long you intend to keep it. If I was looking at keeping car 10-15 more years I'd be more concerned about certain features wearing out.

once you disable those options they may stay disabled for ever, even you enable them some time down the line, they need to be excersized once in a while to keep em functioning.
