ANYTIME Fog lamp op. with OEM switch
Yellow is the flow path. Orange is a suggested power path
I wanna put this question to bed. I have researched this subject and found that To independently operate the fog lamps WITHOUT headlights on and WITH the OEM fog lamp switch, you have to give the Light relay (aka. Front controller/Lamp ECU/No.2 R/B) the signal to operate it. That signal is delivered by the HL relay. So my only suggestion is through IG power. I am currently investigating whether I want to actually invest the time and energy into doing this. Check back regularly but either way I’ll update this with my decision, OR with a fun DIY if I decide to try.

Ive done this on both my old LS400 and current GS430. You have to run a wire from the switch down to the relay... it was a 45min job if you take your time.
here's a write up more on less done on a GS...

same process with different wires i would assume for the LS430 ... still contemplating whether i want to invest the time to do it a 3rd time. Very useful i have to admit.

Interesting mod. Sorry for dumb question, but is there a situation where it is useful that to turn on the fog lights only? Using it as DRL?

They make a kit for the WRX (mine was a 2014) to use the fog lights as DRLs. I preferred it since the high-beams were ugly (imo) as DRLs. It basically hooked into the resistor circuit for the DRLs to power the relay for the fogs. I plan on doing something similar for my LS, as the high-beam DRLs on this are ugly too.
Plus yellow fogs are cool.

I am still working on this guys, the last few weeks at work has been crazy, but I will be starting on Monday evening the 17th. As far as a need to have the fog lamps on whenever you want, I don’t need it no, but I would like it is all

Well, I spent several hours researching this today and the only possible way you can use foglamps is when a signal from the Combination switch for tail lamp and Fog lamps ON is sent to Drivers Side j/b, at which it sends a request to the Front light Controller ECU. I could probably rig something up HOWEVER if the shoe ain’t broke don’t fix it and I don’t feel like causing it to break. I wish They had a customization available for independent Fog control but I have checked and they do not. So you’ll have to wire in extra aftermarket equipment sadly. Oh well I learned a lot about my system and vehicle today.
