Minor Upgrade - HID Fogs w/Pix
Since one of my aftermarket yellow bulb recently went out, I decided to do what many of you have already done, upgrade to HID. I got the 3000k temperature as I wanted to stick with the yellow for visibility for myself and others to see me coming.
It is amazing how small the ballast are now a days. Got this one off eBay for $39 shipped. Its more than half the size of the unit I placed in my wife's car a couple of years ago, and now its even waterproof.
Its rated at 35w and it outperforms my aftermarket 55w bulb by a lot. No error on display so all good.
Took about 10min each side, as I just remove 3 of the screws from the wheel well and squeezed my hand in to remove and install the bulb, and zip tying the super lightweight ballast. I was ready to jack up and removed the wheels but didn't need to.
All in all, well worth the cost. Next up, Daytime driving lights
To the right is the new HID, left side yellow 55w 9006

The beauty of these "cheap" setup is that I can swap out to different temp bulbs with fairly low cost ($15/pair shipped).

hey airtime, good to see you still modding
you say waterproof and so did my cheap ones but i just replaced my 2nd ballast,, but like you mentioned that they are so cheap so its not a huge biggie... i have since tried to tape up and seal all the edges and especially the plugs on mines which has made one side last a little longer.
the mod you need to do next in addition to the drl upgrade is the ability to have fogs on separate of the headlights,, like i run with drl's (7500k) and fogs (3k hid) on only and i think it looks pimpin, myself...
nice writeup and looking good.

What I want to do next is run dual DRL and Highbeam. I don't want to lose my high beam for the standard LED mod. Maybe I'll just do a HID DRL in 6000k.

That one I got, they showed a dunked ballast underwater and running the lights to prove it was sealed. Again, no biggie if it fails.

Looks very good. I may have to look into doing the mod.

well yours do look a lot more water proof but mines were advertised somewhat similarly,, mine just ended up rusting out after about 6+ months.
i too want to see a 6k hid in my drl spot. will an hid ballast fit in that spot? what size bulb would you put in there cuz i actually have a set of 3k & 6k left over brand new 2006 hid bulbs so all i would need is a pair of cheapo ballasts (i mean water proof ballasts ) and it will be done.
thanks for the idea,, now i'm gonna be researching further
