can someone please explain this to meż
For real YO! She should have been taking the the time filling her tank up to check her oil level and to make sure her tires were properly inflated to the correct psi to reduce camber wear. Or maybe she just saw the security camera and had a makeup emergency and went back inside the jeep to make adjustments.
think $70 is high, I had a 2005 Ford 350 diesel with a saddle tank in the bed,, total fuel was capacity was 100 gallons,, saw many $150 to $200+ fill ups,,
depending on your age many of us will see the end of the larger USA gas guzzlers in the 10 to 14 mpg unless the owners are very wealthy or just weekend drivers,, I recall those days when I could buy gas for .19 cents a gallon, of course I was making $90 a week,,
fuel economy has never been a high priority for most USA drivers,, a big luxo boat rolling down main street was,,

I paid $3.40 for premium gas last night out here in Vegas! I'm not looking forward to the summer!! The crazy thing is that we hand an unusual spike during the winter months!!! This forum will be loaded with people spending $70 on a fill up come July and I blame oil-thirsty China, lol!!!!
Since 1970 (when I started driving) gas went for .30/gal. It has gone from .30/gal to apprx $3.00 gallon currently. That's a 10x increase in price of gas but minimum wage went from $1.60 in 1970 to $7.75 currently which is approx 5x increase. So gas is more than twice as expensive today if you are unlucky enough to be a minimum wage worker. I would guess that most LS430 owners earn more than min wage so gas is likely not a huge concern unless you drive 200 miles a week or more.
I hate to say this but I did not mind $4.00 gallon gas because it seemed to cut down on the number of idiots out there driving around wasting gas. Additionally (an even more un-PC thing to wish for) I wish the US state governments would put an additional $1.00 charge on gas and use the money specifically to rebuild our crumbling roads and bridges.

crumbling roads is all i seem to see lately ^ ^ ^. i know i'm over sensitive to these sorts of things since i ride around on low pro's half the year and coilovers as well but damn if these roads in annapolis, dc, and especially baltimore aren't getting worse by the year. in annapolis i think everyone is just driving around in x5's and the tourists just think its rustic looking, baltimore is just plain poo regardless, but what is dc's reason???
i drive around 450 miles every 7 days so it does add up quick but i could always trade it in on something cheaper with better mpg's if it bothered me that much, rightż

But for most folks even going from lets say an 18mpg car to a 28 mpg car, almost never makes sense to change cars in an attempt to save money on gas. That's because in most car transactions (especially in high dollar cars), the high $$$ transaction costs of selling/trading in the old car and then buying another car will eat up any potential gas savings for the next 5 years and 60k miles.
As an example - assuming $3.50 gas, if you drive 15k miles a year, an 18mpg car will cost $2916 in gas/year, a 28mpg car will cost $1874/year. The delta is $1042 per year. So after 5 years and 75k miles you will have saved $5210 with the 28mpg car. But its quite likely the transaction costs plus sales taxes were $4-5k (or more) to sell old car and buy new car. So maybe you save approx $1k over 5 years driving? I pass on that deal.
I am going to drive and enjoy my LS430 till they make V8s illegal : )

It might make sense to swap cars if you drive greater than 20k miles a year and you are going to get and can tolerate driving an ultra mpg econobox.

being able to stand driving an econobox is the key factor. our other vehicle is a scion xA that gets like 38 mph at somewhere around 55mph. however i drive around 75mph to and fro and this puts the mpg's at like 30-32 which is still better than my LS which averages around 24mpg but the difference in price for me is kinda ehhh since i enjoy driving the LS and have a lack of enjoyment after about 15-20 mins in the xA. i'm sure i may get used to it if i drove the xA every single day but not saving $50 a month is sorta worth it at this point. if it were say $300 a month difference in gas prices i would really really consider switching vehicles with my wife for a while.
i calculated that it costs me $17.5 roughly more in gas per week to drive my LS than my wifes xA, which is about 2.50$ a day. i normally don't eat out throughout the week so i guess this is my value/combo meal everyday

MY BAD:
i calculated incorrectly, its about $2.50 each commuting day more expensive to drive the LS than the xA. or roughly $50 a month not 100 like i put up top originally, well this doesn't make me feel so bad after all then,, drive on

Sojah - agree its 100% about priorities.
I am always willing to spend a little more to drive a premium level, larger (and generally safer) car and bring my own lunch if I have to economize a little to have the car I want to drive.
