I just purchased a 2001 LS430 with 69k miles. Very nice car inside and out and mechanically sound except for the air suspension.

I suspect I am going to have some difficulties with it and do not want to spend the 1200 plus per corner to install what appears to be an inevitable failure over time. I realize the air system seems to put folks in opposite corners on this site but I plan to retrofit the shocks.

Are there any after market kits or systems to convert to a conventional strut or coil-over system out there? Any recommendations?

From what i understand, if you go the coilover route, it's a quick and easy swap. There are a few companies out there that have products for the LS430s. If you try to do conventional strut and springs, you'll have more parts to assemble and it might be more of a headache. However, the parts are less expensive than the coilovers.

 

I bet you could get some used parts from the junk yard - check on copartfinder.com - to get springs, etc. Then install them with new shocks from Lexus if you want to keep the original "feel" and Lexus ride. If it were me, I'd be sure to get the "sport" suspension.
