Anyway I am looking into IPad car kits and discovered this on deal extreme. This looks awesome as its a bracket and i can basically hopefully mount it anywhere. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39394
Hmmmmm, didn't realize you Aussies had the LS430 in 2000 !?!
As to the Ipad kit, if you can mount it in such a way as to not mess w/ the aesthetics of the arguably perfectly designed interior and it works for you - go for it !
Best from the OC in So. California - Will and the Furry Ones
I was in the garage with the iPad figuring out some suggestions for you:
- It doesn't fit in the center console.
- It fits sideways in the lower right area of the glovebox.
- With the neoprene cover, it fits sideways in the seatback map holders. Pretty well hidden there, too. (I've used this storage place.)
As for mounting it, I think the best solution would be an upright pivoting or gooseneck mount. Mount it on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel and have the iPad turned to face the driver just right of the gearshift and above the ashtray door. Not very elegant, but probably the most effective.
Velcro is the easiest way to mount it. Trust me, I have been trying to find a mount since the last 2 years. What I did is buy a cheap cover for the ipad, stick velcro on it and the other piece over a small patch of tape on the dashboard. When I dont want to use the ipad, I just close it and I have the original navigation back.
The ipad in the picture is the full sized one, iPad mini fits much better.
If you dont want to go with velcro, go for MagBak. These are the only 2 non irritating ways to have a iPad in LS430.
