Correct tire pressure for 17s
I have a set of new 17" tires with a load rating of 95T on my 2001 LS430. The size is 225/55/17. The inside of the glove box gives me the following options: 95H is 32lbs and 97W is 35lbs all around. What pressure is applicable to my tires if the load rating is 95T? Thanks all.
T = 118mph, H = 130mph = 32psi, W = 168mph = 35psi. As the rating goes up, the recommended inflation pressure goes up. The sidewall of the tire will indicate the maximum pressure. I would use a minimum of 32psi for T tires.
I have Michelin Primacy MXV4 H tires and find that 32psi is too soft. I have to refill air more often to keep it at 32. I fill to 35psi and then when it gets down to 32, I top it up again. The upside of filling to 35 is slightly better fuel economy at the expense of a slightly harsher ride.
