Default Extended warranty

Anybody think it's a good idea to get an extended warranty? I'm thinking with all the electronics and air suspension on the UL, it might be worthwhile. Please let me know your thoughts.

This topic has been much discussed and I think most would say that for UL trim with the air, it might be a good investment as those things can run some big money and several have been known to fail before 100K miles.

As for warranty on any other sub models, the typical extended warranty runs about $2K, so really within 100K you might just about break even if two or three electronic items go. It's really just a peace of mind thing... if you need it.

Lexus isn't what they used to be.... luxurious and reliable. They are reliable but cars like LS's are complex. Just one trip to dealer may cost you thousands after warranty runs out. Coming from a benz owner extended warranty is highly recommended even on lexus's.

Its a very reliable car but it has very expensive parts. If you have anything but the base level premium model I would get the extended warranty but shop around for a good discounted price on the warranty - you can buy over the phone from any Lexus dealer. Lots of expensive stuff to break on an LS430 - just take a look at all the posts on problems with steering column motors, suspension especially UL, DVD Nav and screen problems, ML stereo amp and speakers, O2 sensors, side view mirror motors, door lock motors, etc

Right a friend of mine told me to get it, since he just went through some electrical issues w/ his GS430.

yep... just had my front parking sensors replaced... Covered under CPO but would have been half the cost of the extended had this happened down the road and I had not been covered. My particular dealership will also cover rattles if you know exactly where they are.

105,000 miles on a premium and not a peep of trouble that would have needed the warrantee

Will an 2001 or 2002 LS430 be eligibile for an extended warranty if under 100,000 miles?

I'm also interested in the answer to this, my 2002 is almost at 52000 miles.

Since you're provided all these options, I'm going to assume it's through an underwriter and not the 3/100K (total miles) CPO warranty from Lexus.

So, with 63K on the clock and if you go the lowest 24K, that brings you up to 87K which really would mean the air suspension on your car has to suck or it should not fail before 100K (although some have at much lower than 80K). I can see a sensor here or there going during this period that might bring you lose to even with the $1735 warranty. Short of the suspension, I don't see anything that is going to blow you up to $1700. Also, how much do you plan on driving? If a lot, you're gonna probably get maybe 1.5 years out of it or if you don't drive much, you'll get nothing out of it.

Also, what is covered? Bumper-to-bumper minus wear-n-tear (windshield rock chip, brake wear, tires, etc.) or select items like just powertrain?

Just went and purchased the 4yr/50k mile one. I'm risk averse, so the peace of mind is worth the cost.
