Aftermarket 18" options are falling short
Hey everyone, I just wanted to first of all introduce myself as I am a new member to this forum, but have looked at it often for answers to my questions. Recently purchased a White 01 LS430 with Fittipaldi T5P 20's on it. Has to replace the tires and went with Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season (Minnesota) and have had 2 blow outs since. Their reasoning is that my car was running too low of tire pressue and the sidewall basically ripped itself to threads. To make a long story longer, upon replacing the second one, discounttire told me the seal is getting corroded and that is why my tire is not holding air. I have to fill up with air about 2 times a week because of this issue.
I know the overall consensus is to go Wald 20's on this site, but I need a rim I can use all year around (financially) and everyone says to buy the 18" factory 5 spokes. I agree with that, but Lexus wants $775 each. In my debate between 18" and 19" wheels, the 18's will give me the best traction all year around and still give me a decent looking car.
The problem lies in trying to find aftermarket 18" rims that would look good. I have searched on this forum forever and have yet to find an answer. So without further ado, here is what I have found so far. Remember these will be 18" so that will weigh into the look of the car. Opinions please???

Sorry but I have to vote none of the above on your proposed selections. The thin spoke wheels pictured above don't really match the design aesthetic on the LS. They may look good on an IS but not on the LS.
To my mind and taste the LS looks better with larger spoke wheels.
And I think wire style or very thin spokes look really terrible on an LS.

I agree with your opinions in that thicker spoked rims would look better, but I cant find any that look decent. I am not a huge fan of the wired look. I did find these O.Z.'s that I kind of like too. Thicker look.

@Sojah - Do you have any wire designed rims that you think will look good?
@CW2004LS43 - I heard replica rims and reproduction rims are not good to get, but I also heard pizza isnt good for you and i still eat it. I get nervous about "no name" brand rims. Also, I wonder if the chrome will get too beat up in the MN winters.
Has anyone bought replica/reproduction rims and are happy with them? Any problems?

For the price, they could last 4 years and then buy another set.
Seriously, they seem like they are a good company due to the description of the testing the rims go through.
I like the OZ's also, Tirerack.com has them for $209 each on special right now. I am contemplating the same rim's.

Did you check in wheel classified section as saw 18 L-sportline for sale at very reasonable price? Recommend to save up some more for 19' or 20' as just bought new tires and keep extra set for spare. And who said you should go Wald 20' as mostly see Leon, Work, TrafficStar, or JP, check the ultimate picture thread.

Hmm. The more I think about it, the more I think the stock look seems best. But for fun I wanted to see what the oz's looked like from tirerack.... Not to bad looking really. THey almost pass as stocks from this pic.
Side note: Whats the difference between "Silver" and "Hyper Silver"?

Yea I agree the thicker spoke Oz wheels might look good on the LS.
I also liked the Moda MD5 wheel at Tirerack as another option. Its an inexpensive made in China wheel but its probably adequate quality. Spokes not as thick but it might look OK on the LS

I went with the TSW wheels in 20 inches. Not sure how they would look at 18 inches.

Seems like some custom wheels are quite affordable at tirerack.. I love the "view on your vehicle" option on the tirerack web site that even lets you choose the paint color of the car and then lets you see every wheel type and size on it. 18"wheels range from $99 to $799. But lots of options in the 150-250 wheel range. The less expensive wheels all seem to be made in China.
Crap now you guys have me thinking about getting some new rims when I get tires...bad influences on this board.
