I was trying to convince a buddy of mine who is currently driving Buicks into making the jump to a LS430. He owned MBs back when they were the standard of the world. His wife pushed hime to make up his mind and he grabbed an 06 MB R-350 that has only 2K of warrantly left. I warned him to start looking for a good independent MB mechanic in west Michigan.

i would wait for 07... as for as the cool box, it works great (but you do have to have the A/C on for more than 30 minutes). Cool box works great for long trips, not great 4 day 2 day driving situations. 2nd when I buy flagship, I want ALL the bells or whistles, otherwise I'd just get an base ES... I feel if I got a base LS, people are like this is "THE" LS, but nothing special inside, and I'll have to agree. (if you want better leather and suede headliner, you can get the CL version if you dont want UL)

Why a base ES? Why not a used Kia Rio? LMAO

But there are those who aren't worried about what "people" think about the hair-splitting of whether the car has every option on it or not. (And most likely, if the owner hasn't bored them silly bragging about the seude headliner and glove box with an air conditioner vent, 98% of them won't know the difference anyway.) These people aren't all into trying to impress other shallow people, but are just happy with having a super comfortable, quality LS that meets their needs just as well as an UL.

I actually spent 6 months specifically searching for a base optioned car to avoid all the electronic stuff. I would have paid more for a mint base car than a UL : )

I keep cars for 10 years and wanted to avoid being saddled with lots of stuff that will break or be obsolete in the next 10 years.

I honestly thought I was the only person that felt this way. Why buy a luxury car if you’re not going to try to get every single option. (At least luxury) I can see a person skipping maybe the entire performance package. I think it's embarrassing when a luxury car has less features than a Honda Accord. I remember fussing with the Mercedes dealer about parktronic. He was going to drop the car prices 2 or 3K. I look him dead in the eye. Sorry! find me one with the option. It's just not me.

i feel the same way, got to have all the options. Its not you with the options, when we were looking at the mercedes dealership we had to go through the same thing. He found us one but it was missing keyless go so we were like find us another one, but we ended up getting a gs430 instead. i would love to go out and get a brand new car again but this time, moneys tight so i will just wait and find the right used one

especially for USED car, the UL package back in the day was 13k option, but when buying used, you maybe pay 2-3k more than the base model. If you are Buying Luxury, it's not about being shallow or bragging or showing off, it's about the definition of Luxury (something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary, Merriam-Webster). With a base LS, you get nice design and nice ride, but no over the top goodies that would demand any respect as a Lexus Flagship IMHO.
