04, wont start when wheels r turned
Guys,
Im going crazy here. I have a 2004 LS and have been having a reoccurring problem.
It happens intermittently, where i park the car(level street) and turn the car off I SOMETIMES cannot get the car to start again. I realize the car has a safety feature to prevent the car from starting on an incline or decline i think but I cannot remember whats its called.
This happens on about 4 out of 10 starts. its is getting progressively worst.
I have to sit and turn the wheels back and forth until the car ALLOWS ME to start it again. My question is is this a wearable sensor that degrades over time?
Where is the sensor located, can i change it myself?
I have not gotten any warning lights to indicate a problem.

Are you using the key when starting, or do you have the system that doesn't need the key?
When I try to start mine I sometimes have to wiggle the wheel to get the ignition to turn.

When you say it "won't start", do you mean you can't physically turn the ignition key/swtich mechanism, because the key/switch mechanism seems immobilized/locked into the current position.....or you physically can turn the ignition key/switch fine, and the car turns over, but it never starts?
Also..when you said "you sit and turn the wheels back and forth". Do you mean the steering wheel?....or are you pushing on the pavement (with your left foot out of the car and on the ground) to make the "wheels turn back and forth" slightly forward and backwards, taking into account your statement concerning incline/decline?
I know..details huh.

Yes i have the smart key option. But this occurs with either the key in the ignition or not.

I'am free to turn the ignition mechanism with or without the key, I get all power in the car, radio, power to the steering wheels etc. BUT when I turn the ignition NOTHING happens...no clicking NOTHING. After I turn the steering wheel back and forth many times while turning the ignition key the car eventually fires and drives with no problem. I did replace the battery 2 weeks ago thinking maybe the battery was getting old---original battery. But this issue has been going on for the last 6 months, progessivly getting worst. Sometimes I have to put the car in neutral and let it roll a bit as well as turning the steering wheel back and forth and suddenly it starts fine.Crazy. I know.
