I don't know if this answers your question, but I had a difficult time in playing video from my iPod. After hacking around I eventually found the following sequence allows it to play on the Nav screen.
.
1. Set parking brake.
2. Audio system Power/Vol→On
3. Hit DISC→DVD Changer→1 DVD-Video, providing a black screen→Audio system Power/Vol→Off
4. Go to iPod→Video→Movies→Select video→play
5. Audio system Power/Vol→On→1 DVD-Video and video appears

Thanks for the response. If I read your post right, then step 4 also indicates that you have to manually got to your Ipod unit and control which video to watch (instead of being able to control it from your Nav screen). Let me know if I read that wrong.

You read it right. I really like the VaisTech unit, but the video experience is a little less than desirable. Just finding the right sequence to make it play was not real easy. However, playing video is just a novelty for me as I don't plan on sitting in my parked car watching a video.

Anyone know how to setup the handbrake so you can watch videos while in motion?

The way mine is wired I can watch video while driving. Unfortunately, I don't know how they did it, but I understand that it is a common modification.

I am pretty positive you can use the same vais module I have to play videos off your ipod on your '01 nav screen, and they can use the pre-amps that come with it to even hook up an external DVD to play through your nav screen as well. The headrests in my car is essentially an external DVD that I have switchable to be able to view what the kids are watching on their screens. Of course this requires a video switch to be installed.

Wait, when you said $2+ you mean TWO dollars for the VAIS? I thought you meant $2000 for the VAIS, so that brings total to $3700 already, so labor was $2700?

I guess labor was about $800-1000 dollars...

Again, you gotta pay if you want to play and unfortunately the setup looks super, but I can't pay, so I can't play...

Check out the vaistech site for the different applications. Specifically for the SL2Vi, here is the application page which shows the different package available for the 2001-2003 LS430:
