I’m looking for some feedback on a steering wheel vibration problem with my 2003 LS430 (w/ Regular Suspension). It has 100K miles and is a 1-owner that was 100% dealer maintained prior to me buying it 2 years ago. The vehicle has always had a visible vibration in the steering wheel between 55 – 65 mph. The problem gets better or worse at times depending on the road surface, outside temperature, etc.

I have tried 2 sets of 17” rims (originals & replacements) and 3 sets of tires (Bridgestone, Michelin & Dunlop) with pretty much the same results. The Lexus dealer has road force balanced and rotated all the previously mentioned rim/tire combinations over the past year with no improvement.

Any thoughts on where the problem might be? Suspension or steering components?

 

Had the Sam issue, for me it was outer tie rod end. The best way to check for this is jack each side of the car up and grab the wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock and give it a shake if you get a popping it's most likely tie rod. But just take it to a good alignment shop and have them take a look.
