Default Rear Entertainment Headrest Options

Hello All,

I have been using the search feature but can't find the info I am looking for. I am picking up my new-to-me 2006 Ultra-Lux this weekend and I want to get individual DVD players for the headrests and possibly front visors. With the power and safety feature in the factory headrests, what are some options available? I would prefer touch screens, IR headphones and individual DVD playing ability. I had one shop quote me $1,800 installed for this set up (not including front visors), but I am hoping to find a pair for under $1,000. I know that if the safety feature was not in this headrest, I could get nice DVD players installed for around $600.

Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, I am a reformed BMW owner... 2005 M3 Convertible, just sold it before the warranty expired for more than I am paying for a year newer Ultra-Lux.

I always like the products from Vizualogic. They make both single and dual DVD player. They give you a direct head rest replacement so you can go back to stock if you ever sell your car. You don't really need a front visor as you can get an adapter to utilize your nav screen.

BTW, was there any issue with your M3 convertible as I always wanted one of those

Thanks, Airtime. Are there any types that might be in the $1,000 range? The vizualogics seem to be in the $1,400+ range.

The M3 is a terrific automobile (and it gets a lot of attention)... but... I always felt like something was going to break at any moment... I never really had any problems except for the windows needing to be re-programmed when the battery went dead (would have cost $1,000 if it was not still under warranty). That and the wheels were COVERED in brake dust 3 days after cleaning - I am not kidding. The leather surfaces in the car seemed to wear prematurely.
BTW, the Nav sucked in the M3 as well. Acura/Honda has the best hands down. Also, BMW has the WORST keyless entry system. You must be within about 12 feet for the remote to work. The convertible top went down with the remote, but again, you had to be right next to the car and even then it only worked 65% of the time. But it was a blast to drive...

Normally to be around $600 each and $1200 for the pair. I've seen local stereo shop lower them in the $1000 range.

or you can go cheap...

or for Lexus

or buy the monitors and have a GOOD installer cut into your existing headrest.

Look for the maximum amount of pixels and angle of view.

Note, having a DVD player in each headset does increase the cost. Also, many will have buttons on the unit that detracts the clean look of just the screen itself.

PS: Thanks for the comment back on your previous M3.

Default decision made

After thinking way too hard about this decision, I am getting the Invisions installed at the stealership tomorrow. I got them down to $1899 installed and I will have a spare set of headrests. This is not too much more than other shops were quoting, plus I believe the dealer will certainly stand behind their product and installation better than anyone. I am getting my 35K service and a couple of warranty checks (XM radio and drivers cooling seat), so I figure I'll just get it all done together.

I believe most dealer ship don't do the install themselves, I could be wrong. They usually contract that stuff out. My friend use to do this kind of work for many dealers. Removing aftermarket stereos on trade ins and putting factory units back, upgrading such as what you are doing.
