Default LS430 vs LS400

Hi guys,

I have been thinking about getting a 98-2000 LS400 for quit some time now, but lately started to wonder if I should pay about 8K more for a 2001 LS430 instead, can you experts please give me some suggestion ?

In my mind the LS400 are bullet proof, and there is always that classic look that I love, its the last year model so I am sure all the bugs are fixed, compare to a first year new model for the 2001LS430, but then again I beleive the engine are the same, but we are talking about a whole new look.

Any suggestion or comments are much appreciated !

Thank you,
Jerry

they are day and night different, and the engine is not the same 4.0 1UZFE VS 3UZFE 4.3
01 LS can be had for 16K now, go for it.

one the biggest advantages is the navi in the 01+. Light years ahead of its predecessor.

Here is a thread about the same topic:

As a past LS400 and current 430 owner, I'd definitely say just go straight for the 430. The ride quality is much better, the engine is quieter, and the interior is a higher level of luxury as well. The engine is also more powerful, especially torque-wise.

As an ex-LS400 and current LS430 owner I think that
the LS400 front seats were better than the LS430 ones.

Otherwise I think LS430 is far better

Having only owned a '97 LS400, I can only speak for that and not the MYs in the target dates of the OP. But IMO, the seats in my LS430 are MUCH more comfortable than my LS400 were especially in terms of support. If anything, they might be too comfortable... as in, falling asleep while driving. Maybe I just like the support feel better... I don't know why my experience would be different.

Could the comfortability for the seat contributed from the upgraded option you have ? looks like you have a CL package for your 03.

As far as the option goes besides the ML and navigation, do you prefer going for the UL package ?

Anything I need to look out for for the 01 model since its the first year production, or will I be much better off getting a 02 or 03 ?
(Sorry 04+ are too expensive for me)
