I've been a very satisfied GS400 owner. But now I think I want to step up and be REALLY coddled. I'm beginning to look around for an LS430. I like all the options in the Ultra package, but do you really need those? For me, my only real want is the Levinson sound. But for those of you that have an LS430, which option couldn't you do without and why? Are there options in the Ultra that are must haves? Which package is a good compromise? Thanks to any and all replies...
I have the custom luxury (one step down from Ultra) and I think its more than enough.
Navi / Mark Lev is of course a must do .
The soft close doors and the radar cruise control are both very luxurious options.
I think that unless you spend majority of your time sitting in the rear and getting driven around, most of the features on the back seat are useless to you.
I agree. I have a 2004 with the package one step down from the ultra package (I forgot what the name of the package was). I also got the "Euro tuned suspension" which reduced body roll a bit more. This makes the LS handle a bit more like a Mercedes and MUCH better than the Cadillac STS I traded it in for.
Modern Lux is great, gives you ML and NAVI, plus the perforated leather seats and SmartAccess...if you're a back seat traveler, the Ultra Lux pampers you beyond belief.

I think the ML system is a pretty sorry-sounding system -- waaay too harsh sounding and no decent bass. Plus not really 'musical' sounding IMO. If you are really interested in a decent sound system, you'll have to re-work it. That's what I'm looking into right now.
FWIW, if I had it to do again, I might probably buy a 'base model' LS and replace the sound system with a kick-a$$ setup. I almost never use my navigation system, plus I could get an aftermarket system with nav if I wanted... The main 'optional' feature that I really like on my 2003 LS is the seat-cooler and the super-nice, super-comfy perforated seats.
