There is a button on the lower left portion of the console below the radio for the sunshade (at least on my 2004). The button will put the shade down, and it will not come back up when you put the car in drive.

There is no way that I know of to disable the shade going down in reverse, a safety thing I guess.

The LS I bought in 1990 has a (apparently rare) Lexus manual rear window shade. I learned to be very careful when backing with the shade up but still had a few scary close calls. Although I warned the new owner about the issue when I sold the car last year, within a few months he did some serious damage to the old LS while backing with the rear shade up on a dark, rainy day.

IMO, it is a really nice feature that the LS430 shades drops automatically when in reverse. But if you really hate the automatic feature, it can likely be defeated by locating and disabling the input from the transmission. The lead to the control unit for the rear shade may simply be tied to the backup lights. The wiring diagram for your car would probably tell you.
