If you ask me I'd say that the RL is nice but it doesn't have the luxury of an LS430. I work for an auto mall that has acura and I see the 05 RL every day and I must say it just doesn't move me. Maybe it's because I'm use the my car and I don't feel that quality build when I drive the RL like when I drive my LS. Just my .2cents.

you know you have a point. the interior is ok but the outside is well its not good. doesnt say luxury. of course I have only seen it in pictures, a detail I will fix soon. in any event it doesnt scream at me like the tl did.

Default Lexus

The new RL has a lot of neat options and as I mentioned, you get more 'stuff' for your dollar, but there is just something about Lexus that draws me (and I'm sure most of the rest of you!).

There is just a distinct style and quality with known reliability and satisfaction. Many cars (ie Buick Regal) and very reliable but consumer satisfaction surveys are very low. Somehow Lexus gets it all right IMO. But dollar for dollar and pound for pound, the Acura will give you more options etc.

Another thought....the RL is very new and has lots of technology. You might want to wait and see if reliability pans out over the next year. Acura is an excellent company, but this car has a lot of electronics which may need bugs worked out.

Lexus is King!

It is posts such as yours that that change the tone of the forum. There is a proper etiquette in asking. There is a manner in which we can discuss topics constructively. Let me know when you are ready.

what recent test was this? the car was released 3 days ago. and no it will not beat the ls 430 in acceleration since the current ls is 5.9 0-60 and the 01-04 is 6.3 . the rl is 6.4 which is not even as fast as the current tl. handling yeah it probably wins but get your facts straight. and by the way, what kind of idiot drives fast on wet roads?

I have had many Hondas, Toyotas, Acuras and Luxus' - all great cars. But the Lexus/Toyotas are in a slightly better class than the Acuras/Hondas.

Besides all the pros and cons mentioned earlier in this thread, never had anyone say "Wow, an Acura!"; constantly hear "Wow, a Lexus!"

I'd go with the LS430 (MHO).

Good luck!

i just seen one at the dealer, it's not eye catching, it also looks small, no luxury feel to it at least fromt he outside, looks average to me.....but i dont think the $50k price tag is worth it, maybe $40k-45....will bring in more buyer.....but the LS gets my vote any day....especially the 04 ultra....

Default Decision made

Going to buy a 2001 LS430, Blk/Blk or Silver/Blk or Silver/Gray. Just couldn't get over the small size trunk in the Acura and that they want full sticker price. Plus I have to admit that the low end grunt of a V8 and the smoothness was also a factor.

The hunt is now on..............

its too bad you cant handle facts. everything I posted is a fact and the last sentence is an opinion I am sure most people share. if you dont like having someone contradict your statement well thats life. it has nothing to do with a tone just accuracy.

OK guys, let's get back on topic. Both are nice cars and LXTASY has made his (correct ) choice. We will await his triumph in finding his new ride.

If you guys (and you know who you are ) need to continue the "discussion", please take it to PM. If the problem escalates (and I am sure it won't since we are all adults here), please PM a mod. There is no need to air it in public any further. Thanks for understanding.

Well the RL is GS 300 AWD competition (which comes out next year). Acura does a good job of going into cracks and getting buyers instead of winning them with head on comparisons. I have read they are asking sticker and a 3 year lease of $800 a month. No thanks.
Paying 50k for an Acura, it feels like paying for store brand ice-cream, no matter the value. I can't do it.

Already from the RL forums

Same thing happened to me this morning. Took delivery yesterday (Tues) evening at 7:30p. SH-AWD warning light came on within 10 miles of dealership. Went ahead and took behicle home and then planned to bring back to the dealership (service) first thing on Wed. Within 4 miles of home, the SH-AWD warning light came on again. Note that this was not the pull over immediatly warning light but just a "there could be a problem...check with dealer at your convience" type of warning light.

Then car then felt like it downshifted and then started to shake and jerk from the rear wheels. It's as almost some of the wheels were locking up. I then decided (good idea) to pull over and then noticed a cloud of smoke coming out from the rear of the car.

Car was then picked up (via Acura Roadside Assistance) on a flatbed and taken back to the dealership. Dealership folks were nice and understood my frustration. A regional Acura Rep is due in today and if parts need to be replaced (which I bet they will) should be replaced with new since the car is so new there are no any remanufactured parts available yet.

My guess is that there is a lot of bad AWD components. I'll post a update as soon as I get a response from the dealership..

Wise choice young Jedi lol. The 2001 LS430 is a great choice. I bought a nav/ml 2001 last summer and am very happy with it (although I had some definite dealership troubles)

My car is so smooth and while I sometimes question having this car at age 34, I never say to myself..."I wish I had bought an acura"!

PM me if you want to hear my experience on buying a 2001.
