Default What a Deal !!

I hear lots of people complaining about Dealer prices. I have my LS 430 serviced at Mike Shaw Toyota in Corpus Christi because the Lexus dealer is 250 miles away in Austin. But the parts are the same and the Lexus dealer charges twice the labor cost, and I have to find lodging while I wait for a week. Oh yes, and Mike Shaw sent an uber to pick me up to come get the car (50 miles round trip!)
I just got back from the dealer where I got BOTH front struts replaced, Both rear brake rotors and pads replaced, LR "Knuckle" replaced (That was the big bill) Four wheel alignment. all for $3100. All OEM parts. Yes I could have saved a couple hundred by doing the work myself but when I got to that frozen bolt on the knuckle I would have regretted THAT decision. This brings my maintenance cost for 100,000 miles to a total of $5400 (includes one TB replacement). Thats about five cents a mile. Gas is 10 cents a mile, and then there are tires, oil and one battery but I count those as expendables.. But even including the expendables the cost is only $19,000 (I have all the receipts logged in) So the total cost of ownership including expendables is just about 20 cents a mile!!!!
I bought it used from a "little old lady" that only drove it to the dealer for service every 3 months for 10K Whats not to love about a 21 year old Lexus that still looks and drives like new.It will be another 100,000 miles before I will have to do anything more.

Once you sell your car, your $/mile will go down as well. I have been doing the same kind of tracking for all my cars as well

I am very, very similar at $19k from 35k miles to 170k miles over 16 years. Also I had CPO for first 6 of that. But I don't consider it cheap, and II could use 5k of work easily in next 2 years, if not more. Still, the car is reliable and I like it. No plans to sell. I do need cosmetic work, alas. I may try your Toyota dealer idea.

Good for you. You found satisfaction and you and the little lady are happy with each other. Sounds like a match made in heaven and similar to mine where the old girl celebrates 23 years! I wish you many moons of contentment 🥰
