Default Replace both ride height sensors when only one has failed?

The much talked about failed rear ride height sensor has failed on my ls430, it had a code for the left rear failing but not the right rear. The ride quality was bumpy before and now its jacked in the back and super stiff.
Can the right one throw no codes and still not function properly? I know if one fails the other would be close also.
I ask as I also have a rear right from the United Arab Emirates that's in nice shape.

My car is from the south and now in the north so I'm sure water got in the old one. But the ride quality is not the best, hitting a bump is hard.
A lot of these cars seem to have parts that many here respond to "if its still working don't replace it". So I'm wondering if I should replace both or wait for right to go. My shop would be doing the work. Any input greatly appreciated.

Unless there is labor savings, don't do both at once. Mine failed at age 4 when I first got it. I have a 2005 that I got CPO in 2009. Some months later, my cruise computer died (pattern failure on some 2005 ULs at 50k miles, bad computer). Dealer also found one rear height sensor was bad. After the fix, the hi/low height button worked. Before that it just did nothing, not even on dashboard, and I hadn'[t bothered to check if that was a prolem. They replaced one height sensor. 16 years later the air suspension and ride height remain fine.

If you have UL, check if car raises and lowers properly with the height button after 2-3 minutes. If non-UL, it is a height sensor is for headlight alignment and should not affect ride quality, I believe. Bad ride (and mine is probably not what it once was) is far more likely struts or 18" wheels or tires. I am sure new struts would ride better, but the curse of UL is air struts ands I am not changing unless I am clear they are bad. (I got the UL for its adaptive cruise). The car still rides quite well.

Cool thanks for the info. Very handy as part is at shop but not the right one and they will do just the RR sensor. Its a UL with all 4 new air struts. Ride height changes with switch. It will hold air and when I start it up often the compressor dosn't come on. What makes me think its the ride height sensor (s) is the compressor kicks on at wacky times and when I go to High setting for suspension the compressor often doesn't stop so I have to go in low mode.
The compressor is getting week, the car does have 140 k on it.
I think from Lexus I found out my computer, under warranty, failed at 50k and was replaced. 16 years, that awesome, have you thought of going to Vegas?
Oh its got 17"s on it, face lift too.

Didn't know UL could have 17's. What are the 4 new air struts? if OE that's super expensive, at least 8-9K. If not, what brand? wondering if that could be part of the issue. I always try to learn about strut options for the day I am ready to act. There have been thread on that but do you know what you have?

Oh dear, 17's are not stock. Yup OEM from Impex, that was a nightmare. Ordered used ones from this business in canada, dude is super sketch, put them in and they didn't work.
The new OEM ones I put in I couldn't figure out, the air struts looked like they were just made, no rot, shinny black fresh rubber etc. Dampers should be fine. Actuators would have thrown a code, but are original. Sport mode I could not see a difference.

What sucks is the rear air struts were done at lexus 30k ago, its why I got it, I figured if worse came to worse maybe one I'd have to replace. But I listened to people here so going down the chain there isn't much left, all OEM. I would use a after market compressor, those are dirt cheap, if the original went. I knew to stay clear of the UL but I had some health issues where I thought I needed it. So many after market parts for the ls460 but not the ls430.
There are some ride height sensors on eBay for 60 bucks new from China. My hope was there was enough after market parts when getting this.

Its so odd, so many parts for old cars but not these ones.
