Better backup camera with OE nav? Camera from other lexus?
Hello,
I am a new owner of an 04 LS430. Is there a way to keep the stock nav display and only change the factory backup camera to improve the quality? (I am assuming the factory rear camera is the bottleneck here and not strictly the screen).
Will the factory camera from other relatively newer Lexus models from say 07/08/09 ES/GX/LS that will fit plug and play on the 04-06 LS430?
I don't have an answer about what cameras could work with the LS430, however I don't think a different camera will help since the LS430 screen is very low resolution, 400 x 240 to be exact. That is even lower than old school tube TVs from the 70s and 80s. So even if you find a higher resolution camera, the screen can't show a higher resolution image because it just doesn't enough pixels.
Even now in new Lexi the larger screens have better resolution than the base level screen and the
back up camera image is noticeably different. The optional panorama 4 camera view requires the
larger and clearer screen.
This is an old car with antiquated electronics. There are options out there to update that come with a 4k camera and look like factory. Did it to my 2001 UL.
Do you mean those android headunits? Yes, I am looking at those esp the teyes. Just lost in the many I see on aliexpress.
This is the one I put in my friends 2001 UL from EKIY on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802558475382.html Specifically theKK5 8G 128G version. Better specs and better price than the Teyes I've seen which only have 3gb of memory and 32gb of storage which is pathetic in 2024. Even my four year old midrange smartphone has 6gb of memory and 128gb of storage. Several other people here on the forum also got the same one from EKIY. The one in my friends car has been going strong for almost two years now.
