I have seen dealer remanufactured part doa and also fail after use. Just because the part costs more does not mean it is better quality. Denso has a where to buy because they know oem parts are used in the refurb process. Going brand new oem is the way to go if money is not a problem to make sure the part will last.
I have one on the shelf i was saving for our LS. As the car was totalled, was planning on putting on ebay. I can check the part number and let you know later if interested. It is a Denso part new in box.
Removed the alternator yesterday. Couple things I would like to share:
1. I think the hardest part for me was to unplug the connector. As the car aged, the plastic was hard and difficult to leverage the push/pull action on the tab. I used the F word a few times
2. One of the "bolt" didn't get lose. The whole stud came out. (see pic). That took a bit of my time.
Right after I got the alternator out, I checked online price from Lexus which was about $270. I called my local Lexus and they wouldn't honor the price. The part manager told me they are not part of "Lexus online part". He wanted $500 for the alternator. So I ended up ordering from Lexus and alternator is on the way (shipping out from Lexus of Portland).
