97 ls 400 sat for two years help
Hey all,
I have a 97 LS400 that’s been sitting for almost two years due to the starter (I know, I know, some unfortunate life events have kept me from working on her), I have the starter, new tires, new batteries, and I’m looking at purchasing new fuel system parts.
I know before I start her I need to clean my fuel tank, probably new fuel pump and fuel filter, is there anything else that needs maintenance/replacement just due to lack of use? 230k miles, ran like an absolute dream a year and a half ago.
My long term goal with this car is to emulate Ryan Coffel’s LS400, minus the stance (maybe even more width), in a silver and black color way, I have a turbo manifold for my engine, but no turbo or related upgrades for it yet.
TLDR; 97 LS400 sat for year and half due to starter, new starter, tires battery in hand, due to how long the car sat, what else needs to be maintained/replaced?
Thanks y’all.

starter first, change engine oil, and check trans fluid condition. batteries and tires yes. i would just drain the fuel and put fresh unleaded to see if it will run before replacing the pump. check condition of the brakes and brake fluid and replace if necessary.
get her roadworthy first before modding.

If you have the time, pull all 8 of the spark plugs and either pour in a smidge of oil into each hole, or buy a can of fogging oil and give each of the cylinders a quick shot of it.
If you can, rotate the engine over a few times by hand to help spread the oil out, which will help lubricate the upper cylinder walls after sitting for so long. Then when it starts, it will burn off the excess oil almost immediately.

I would also flush the coolant before any long drives or regular use, first start up it should be ok as long as it doesn't appear dirty and used up. Toyota Red is the stuff to use. Should be changed every 2 yrs and 24k.
