Hood shock/strut fix (The Mother thread)
#91
i use that ebay stuff. works purdie good until your hood knock you out haha. i notice the hood strut on ebay are like stupid industrial. thats why it leaves a lil dent into your hood. but o wellps haha i cant afford to pay 80 bucks a strut for my hood so thats 160 bucks to cover both sides of your hood and maybe another 120 for an hour of labor. can always buy the part yourself and do it yourself only takes a few minutes. just make sure you got someone to hold up the hood fo ya . its prettyy darn heavy

Need some help, been searching and cant find the answer (maybe using the wrong keywords): How do you get the old struts off? Do they stay attached to the factory pins and just unbolt them from the hood & fender? Is there a clip I'm missing that lets them release from the ball? Do you have to pry them a certain way? HELP!

There is a clip that needs to be removed before they can be taken off. I had to grind down the edge to get to the clip to remove mine. Then I bought some replacement struts off ebay which bent my hood. I then found factory replacements and did it right which is what I should have done from the start. The factory ones are cheap and come with struts already mounted on the hardware. You can see where to get them with a search.

This is the poor man's fix.
I drilled 1 hole in each strut and put a cotter pin through to hold up the hood- the pins are attached to the strut by a piece of wire (optional).
A broom works well to hold up the hood while you are working on the struts.
On drilling the strut you may see some oil leaking from the strut, but this stops after a while.
The hood becomes very heavy after you do this, so ladies, be forewarned.
