BUT PLEASE
Thats like me asking you why you liked the 15" on your '90LS........ everyone has their own taste. Once you go fat you'll never go back. LOL.
I dont mean a big woman either.

Your answer was not sufficient. What about it turns you on? Does it ride better? Does that fat black rubber give you some sort of excitation? To me, the luxury ride is the luxury ride....15 inch tires, 16 inch tires etc. What would anyone want to crap up a Lexus like that? C'mon, please explain it just so I can MAYBE understand.

Daryl,
Moving from a 15 or 16 inch wheel to a 17 or 18 inch wheel is usually done for handling and performance, as well as looks. The smaller wheels have a cushier ride and more sidewall, but a lot more roll in any turn.
19 and 20's are usually put on mostly for the visual effect. Many (I'd probably go as far as to say most on this forum) people think they look much better than the stock size wheels. You do get some handling improvement over the smaller wheels, but that's mostly offset by a harsher ride. Plus you've got to pay more attention to road surface for potholes, etc.
I'd also ask you to post with a bit more tact, especially towards a new member making his first post. While you might not like the decision to put larger wheels on, it's his decision and calling it 'crap' IMO isn't a nice way to welcome him to our forum. It's fine to disagree with putting larger wheels on because you like the cushy ride; you should also understand it's OK to put larger wheels on because someone else likes it another way. Askying why is a great question , but I'd ask that we treat our members with a bit more respect.

OK, thanks for your explanation. I would take issue with you, however, on the "many" or "most". I'd say "some", at the very best. But to each his own.

Tell you what, let's start a poll in the wheels forum and find out?
Edit, have at it - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=98821
Gary, sorry to derail your thread and answer the question for you... back to your regularly scheduled welcome note.

By the way, Dave, I reviewed my posts here and stand by my comment about "crap(ping) up" a Lexus. I don't believe I said anything disrespectful about anyone. I just gave my opinion, in question form, that adding big wheels "takes away" from the fine OEM appearance. I really don't think I deserved the spanking for using the term "crap up".

Yeah, you're probably right Darryll (sorry).
I do think still however think it did come across pretty harsh; it certainly would be nice to welcome a new member to our forum with something other than a statement immediately questioning their taste and 'Your answer was not sufficient' (although I think that was meant for someone else). I still stand on my request for a bit more tact.

Fair enough! I'll settle for a verdict somewhere between your original harsh sentence and my plead of complete innocence. How about just a suspended sentence and community service (cleaning my Lexus!) for me to make your point???

Darll40, I think even engineer at Lexus keep putting on the bigger wheels themself. I mean you can look at 90-91 LS with 15, the 93-00 with 16, the 01-03 with 17 and the 04 with option 18". Now the new LX470 comes standard with the 18".
I think they realized the bigger wheel can added the look and perfomance to the car.

Whatever. I still don't get it. The best lookin' wheel was the Gen 1 "directional" wheels.
