Default 1991 ls400 -differential compatability

So…I was given a 1991 lexus ls400. It needs a differential. Can anyone tell me what diffs I can swap into my ls400 so I can get that fixed at least? And by swap I mean what years are interchangeable

Don't go "leaving" it.

I have to ask, are you 100% certain it's the differential? You personally inspected it and verified it to be the cause of the problem? Don't mean to second guess this but these things have been misdiagnosed before.

that I don’t fully know, the owner said I needed to replace the rear pumpkin, I can put the car into any gear but the car doesn’t move, when pressing the pedal in drive the back end starts shaking erratically

Probably best to confirm that's what it is before dropping any money into it, then start looking. It is not hard to diagnose just want to make sure, there are cv shafts, drive shaft, etc. and on up the drive train from there. Maybe just try to get it safely up in the air a little and get a visual see what's going on under there.

I can't answer your question. I haven't seen many problems with the rear diffs so there may not be many answers out there for you.

If it were my car I'd take a look at what's happening when you feel it flopping around. My money is on busted CV joints / driveshafts.
