Default Engine covers, on or off?

Y'all leave on or remove your engine covers?

I've left it on, came with it that way from Toyota. I don't want spare stuff in the garage, those invariably get broken or lost, especially stray fasteners. My small parts drawers have all sorts of different fasteners from various DIY assembled furniture that I may not have attached a piece and coming back years later, "what does this go to?" Murphy Law, you'll throw it away then a year or so later realize I want to put this piece on and those parts are long gone.

Engine cover is designed for noise reduction, it can also be good for wire guidance and protection (i.e., keeping away from hotspots).

Engine cover stays on typically.
However one of the underside plastics has remained off for a few years now. I think the one that covers the trans area.

Leave them on, the LS400s cover is tasteful and elegant and you can still see the beautiful motor and intake manifold underneath.

The LS460s cover is a great ugly slab of gray plastic covering an uglier motor underneath.

I like it on because it looks way cleaner. Also it keeps some crude from falling into the engine valley and other spots.

Having it off is nice to... Because you can see leaks or work on the car with ease.

i keep the cover on but leave the bolts off (store them in the trunk tool kit) so i get the benefits of the cover and can quickly take it off to show people the exquisite design of the VVT-i 1UZ

I keep them on. Keeps engine cleaner and protected.
but they are a royal PIA. Especially the ones underneath but I think they protect very well. I have been working on my cars for years. Haven't had a car payment for 20yrs! So you know I have spent many many hours under a vehicle. The lexus is always cleaner than cars without them. So even though I think there a pain I think their worth it.
