EDIT: Tex's headers were originally designed for the Japanese spec V8 Soarer. No guarantee if they will fit on a LS400

Please note, anyone interested in headers for your LS400.

I have been working on getting exhaust headers built for all Lexus V8 cars. I have found a guy that has been building headers for over 20 years who has already built headers for the 4.7 V8 Tundra. I am talking to him about a shorty style header that should fit ALL our V8 cars... GS400/430, SC400 and LS400s. Price for a set of headers WITH high temp ceramic coating should under $600/set. He needs committment for 20 sets prior to expending the R&D time and money. He is not asking for payment, just a commitment to buy once available.

If you are interested in actually buying some excellent headers for you car, PM me.

Thanks,

John Brady

Arn't the ones from australia go for 300 a set? I can hardly justify spending this much for just headers.

What would be the outcome of putting new headers in and taking my old ones out? How long will the process take?

Im down, but I aint buying the other 19. I think you need to pull the entire engine out to replace the headers if I am correct.

Remove and re-install the motor just for the headers?

Retro, no, Tex's headers are around $750 coated and shipped to the USA. Those are OK headers but there are a lot of problems that are not going to be an issue with these. Check around, $600 for a low production set like these are on the LOW side. Consider how many people pay $1000+ for just a cat back system and that is a LOT less work than building headers. Consider the C's headers for the LS430 at $2500 a set

(SEE 2 POSTS DOWN FOR HUGE PICTURE)

In fact the picture above of the C's headers is what I have in mind for these... only MUCH cheaper

Anyway, if you really want to get power out of your 1UZ-FE you need to trash the stock exhaust manifolds... especially the early style ones.

As far as pulling the engine... I haven't done the work yet but on my car it will probably require unbolting the engine mounts and slightly lifting one side and then the other. Total engine removal will not be necessary. I do know that on the SC400s (early models, 1992-1997) this is not required.

So far we only have 3 LS400 owners stepping up!!!

So... do you really want to worry about these 4 and 6 cylinder cars running off on you?

WOW...

That picture is WAY larger than the link on their site.

After seeing these headers closeup (for the first time) I can say that the ones I have in mind will NOT have the interference between the primary pipes... I would really like the layout IF and only IF they did not interfere...

So, the parts I am proposing are going to work BETTER than these $2500 dollar pieces from Japan... Maybe we will need to export!!!

BTW, here is a picture of the second generation (1998+) headers that are WAY better than the 1st gens... even so look at the terrible right angle turns and the vitual non existing primary runners on the back 2 cylinders. This plus the horrible construction process that Toyota uses to build its manifolds that creates a strong part that flows very poorly. Remember, these are BETTER than what most of you guys have... sheezz...

C's $2500 dollar header with poorly designed interfering primary pipes... (still better than stock though)
