Check the battery cables and connection first. Verify that the battery at rest is in the 12.1V+ range. Does the car dash light up with the key in the ON position?

The lights come on then everything goes out when I turn the key. Strange. It just goes click and I lose all power

Sounds like a dead battery, bad alternator, or a bad connection between the two. Make sure the cables are clean and tight at the battery terminals.
