Water in the trunk is most always the trunk seal. The antenna has its own drain I think. Then of course the moon roof drains are back there too.

 

 

I found signs of it being rear ended. Would explain the salvage title. Given everything, it runs great with some small things needed. Would it be worth it to get the leak in trunk fixed or sell it off? Buddy would pay 1k for it, he wants the engine. Or continue to fix?

 

If the main parts like engine, tranny, AC and operational electronics are still good, the base is passable. Depends how much your wallet can potentially handle the accumulating smaller fixes. Weather seals are not to bad as well as other easy DIY that have minimal wallet drain in that respect.

 

All those are superb still luckily. Wallets not much of an issue.

 

Just bought a -97 LS400 with a couple of small problems. One being that it was water in the spare wheel area in the boot.
Removed the tail lights left and right and immediatly found the issue. The changeable foam seal on the tail lights has with age stopped sealing.
These pics clearly show where the water could enter the trunk behind the lights:

 

Where do you get the foam seals?

I took out the carpeting in the spare tire wheel well and was relieved to see that there was no rust. I did, however, find a few loose nuts. I was hoping that somebody might know what it is?

I think I'll go with changing the weather strip first and see how that goes. It's not sunny right now, so, I'll wait to remove the carpet for a good sun dry.

Oh the power steering fluid in the one photo. Don't use that in the LS.
