Bought a $100 110k mile 1995 transmission and put it into my 1996 in my driveway. Took me 5 days, but then I was 67 years old and had never done one before. I just followed the on-line guide and it worked fairly well. Have to get the car up in the air quite a bit to get it in and out.

I got a quote from a salvage yard that had one with 100k on it for $522.50 + 195 shipping

That's the price range I was seeing as I shopped for transmissions.

I think pull a part would be around 130 or less, don't know for sure, but any used transmission is a gamble of sorts. Not all can do it but I personally would go the route banshee did. I have done lots of various transmissions through my life, unlike some that don't have that capability. To have it done at a shop will be from $1500. to $3000. And a DIY could end up costing more if its not your thing.

It's a crap shoot if you go w/ a used tranny as you really don't know the condition of it & may end up w/ the same problem down the road so last year, I had my 97 LS400 @ 245K miles overhauled w/ Raybestos Transmission Rebuild Kit at a tranny shop I trust & I know the owner so it help for about $1100. Car is shifting like brand new & silky smooth again.
