Default Door frame hole plug plates

Numerous access holes in the door frame and chassis (such as top of rocker panels below door sills) that are covered with circular thin black or clear vinyl plugs with pressure sensitive adhesive.

Over time, or upon removal, the adhesive loses adherence and they no longer barrier against noise.

As I come across these plugs, I replace them with modified plugs...

The OEM plugs are thin, and thus do not block noise as well as thicker material... however thin is necessary for certain areas due to clearance....

I came up with a solution to offer the best of both worlds.

OEM hole plug \"plates". Two sizes "cover" everything.

Stock hole covers are consistency of packing tape...and do little to block noise.

OEM plug cover plate materialnis much thinner than Boom Mat vinyl barrier material.. Thicker material is more effective sound barrier.

Hole template used to size door access holes...

Plug cut from Boom Mat material .

Boom Mat thick vinyl plug adhesive side is centered and pressed onto adhesive side of new OEM plug. In this way the thicker Boom Mat material resides in hole, while the low profile OEM material adheres to panel surface.

One suggestion I'd like to make is to invest in a "leather punch kit." Sounds kind of silly, but it will let you "punch" perfect circles out of sound deadening material

Reducing cabin noise. I've been curious what the db reading is compared to cars these days.

An image of rear door depicting replacement vinyl hole plugs installed. As discussed, OEM plugs are paper thin tape and do not block noise. Thicker plugs cannot be used because of interior door panel clearance issues...hence the use of a thick plug adhered to back of new OEM plug that is same diameter as hole.

Also....thin plastic on door ECU blocks little sound....

Used same Boom Mat material to create a cover...here the thicker material does not interfere with interior door panel fitment

Speaking of plugs and noise reduction, here's my preferred solution, at least until I catch up to Billy and no longer need these:

Not kidding.
