How smooth should the ride be?

Oh I agree, the 98-00 LS400 is a much better looking car than the LS430, although the 04 refresh helped.
Big thing in the 430 is space, it feels much bigger inside because of the taller greenhouse.

Don't forget older tires. They get hard over time and don't ride as nicely as brand new ones. If they are over 4 years old, regardless of the miles, it may be time to replace to get that smooth ride back.

226k miles on it now. I have 18" wheels off 2005 for summer and original 16" for winter.
the summer tires are Michelins Primacy MXV4, getting worn, between 40 and 50k on them. Up to 70mph ok, higher speeds very loud, I hope it's just the tires.
Replaced both rear wheel bearing a year ago and FR bearing a week ago.
can a shop put it on lift and imitate high speed to see if anything makes noise?

Older Thread, I know. My 97 LS400 is smoother than any of my newer cars (2012 Honda Ridgeline and 2015 Accord) . Recently, I was thinking I needed to do some more suspension work due to a vibration I feel in the steering wheel when first starting to drive and almost always at highway speeds 65-80MPH. Above 80, it smooths out again. I had to replace most of the front end at about 135k miles (did the rear struts then too) , I'm at 195k now. I decided against any suspension work until after winter...even though I ran over a deer at 75 MPH this week - a big deer. The deer ripped up the undercarriage plastic drip pan and a plastic piece under the bumper on the driver side. ... and it left blood and a lot of HAIR.(I digress)
The vibration started when I bought a set of Goodyear Assurance tires! Son was driving it at the time and he did not "know" something was not correct. I'd change the tires now but these tires are pretty aggressive and winter is coming up - I will use them as snow tires for the winter.
