1 Gen LS400 - Take out the yellow fog glass
The thinking at the time (late 80s) was that yellow light helps one see better in the fog. Although that theory is still true, the LS400 fog lamps were simply covered by a yellow glass that reduces its lumen output by 50 percent!!! This problem was later fixed in the automotive industry by using a bluish tinted glass that produced yellow light, but did not reduce its efficiency. So I broke out the yellow glass with a whack from a screwdriver and voila!!! What a difference. The beam is so much brighter, and the pattern is more accurately placed as well. The yellow glass was of very cheap quality, and not optical quality. This should also reduce the heat build up in the lamp and make your expensive bulbs last longer. Go for it.

OK. I see some confusion here. The best way to do it is take out the fog lights (have to take out whole assembly...need a howto?) and you will see that the part with the yellow glass is held in by 2 screws. You can remove the screws, take out the yellow glass part with a metal frame it sits on and brake it outside of your fog light (so no glass stays inside). Then put the frame back in and you will have your clear light.
