Default Parasitic drain while parked - solved

My 91 ls400 had a trunk light staying on with the trunk closed, due to a faulty CD player providing a ground for the light. Apparently, the cd player needs to know when the trunk is open, I suppose to prepare for removal of the disk cartridge. What ever they were thinking 25 years ago I can't say. Unplugging it corrected the issue, but I opted to physically remove it as well. I was shocked at how much the beast weighs. No wonder this car weighs so much. Even though they used a lot of aluminum for the time. If I had removed this much unneeded weight from my MR2 I would throw a party.

Thanks for sharing that info and congrats on the find. They can be trick to find, but I'm sure it was in the last place you checked.

Lol, it's always in the last place you check, because you stop looking when you find it...

If this is the pristine LS, I really don't know why you would remove the CD player. Its just another thing that can add to the value of the car in the future.

I used to have a 92 that developed an overnight drain. It drove me crazy, and I was thinking about putting a disconnect on, but that makes the car forget so many things. One day after pulling a fuse at a time, I narrowed it down to a minor circuit but still couldn't see anything on. I finally turned off all the lights in the shop, and found the passenger visor mirror light was on, and you can barely see it when it's closed. I just had to work the switch a little until it started turning off again. Simple fix, but not so easy to find. So if you have a 1st-gen, especially one with lower miles, you can check those kinds of things that have power all the time.
