Replacing Pioneer headunit in '95, please confirm wires
Hi everyone. About to install a new cheapie headunit to replace the Pioneer headunit. Since original amp is already bad (popping sound in speaker) I will go with headunit powering 4 speakers (no amp/sub).
From reading the forum I know I will have to run 4 pair of speaker wires to the amp area, unplug the amp connectors, and splice into the correct wires to connect to the 4 speakers (FR, FL, RR, RL). Should I use 16 or 18 ga speaker wires?
The new headunit also has wires for 12V, Acc, Ground and Antenna power. Since this is not a fancy high power unit, can I just connect/splice them to gray wiring harness behind the original stereo (picture with labels attached). Can those of you who done this install please confirm before I start cutting.
Thanks.

Keep in mind the stock front speakers are 2 ohm and may overload the on-board amp on your head unit and/or the thin power line behind it. Since you're already running wires to under the seat I'd run an extra power and ground down there while you're at it and tap into the thicker wires there.. the only wires I tapped behind the head unit were ACC and illumination ('98 without power antenna).

Correction on my GND, and good point on overloading
djamps, thanks for your input on possibly overloading cheapie headunit's amp. I will pull 2 extra power wires for constant on 12V and for Ground, and splice to connectors intended for original Amp.
I went back to wiring diagram and realized in my original post/photo, my Ground was incorrect. It should be the brown wire at pin 14 on the gray connector (corrected at my new photo).
Still need to confirm if ACC wire (light gray, pin 6) and Antenna wire (black with red stripe, pin 12) is correct for 95 with Pioneer stereo. Can anyone confirm?

During my research before i replaced the pioneer in my '98 I found very conflicting info. My suggestion is to use a multimeter and verify for yourself. Either way, never plug stuff in blindly.
