Default Is the LS really this soft?

Hi all picked up a 00 LS with 106k. Fantastic car I love it. I have driven a few others years ago but I can't tell if this is worn out shocks or how it's supposed to be. The back dips down when I accelerate at anything over light throttle. Coming to a stop the nose dives a bit and then when I come to a stop I can get the car to bounce just a little if I brake a little at the end. I can push down on the trunk and the car will bounce once and then stop. Also on the highway it kind of just floats along. Never seems settled. The car handles fine doesn't really have a ton of body roll it's more the up an down motions I am curious about. I'm a little off the spectrum in terms of comparisons as I come from a lot of stiffly sprung cars. My weekend toy is a 2011 S4 on aftermarket suspension which is pretty tight. Curious to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

The suspension on the LS400 is pretty tight for a sedan. It shouldn't be dipping at all from take off unless you have worn shocks.

Yes, the LS is softly sprung and will exhibit weight shift under braking and acceleration. In comparison to an S4 with aftermarket suspension the LS will be quite the contrast. Even with the lower miles on the car, age is something to consider. I would suggest inspecting for any signs of leakage from the shocks and or replacing. The shocks in mine were gone by 70K as were the strut rod bushings.

Sounds exactly like mine at 200k which has what appears to be the original shocks. The shocks are certainly worn but unless you get more than one 'rebound' bounce when pushing on the front or rear I'd let them be.

That's a pretty good description of my shocks. I'm at 235K.

Ordered a set of Bilstein shocks to go with my stock springs. Thinking about going with the lower perch as it will lower the car ~3/8"..should look good. I am stock. Looking forward to a tighter ride.

Adding H&R springs would also firm the ride up but not make it too stiff.

I have H&R / Bilstein on my s4, it's an awesome combination.
