98 LS 400 Audio Upgrade to Hi-Res system
My car came with Nakamichi premium system. Although is a nice system, it lucks Bluetooth and AUX In. I got tired of hearing the cassette adaptor click sound. I have being using Garmin for GPS and sometime my phone. I never like cables hanging everywhere on the dash. I did install a double DIN unit, but I never like the way GPS works
Solution: I got a single din headunit that I can control by my phone or table. I could have installed it in a hidden place, but I just want to see it for now.
These is my set-up. I am using a magnetic docking station to hold and charge the tablet. I attached the docking station to the open slot using a Loctite high strength double sided tape. The tablet is Sony Xperia Compact running on Android. This tablet is water and dust proof with magnetic charging capabilities. No cables attached to the tablet. This radio can be controlled by sony app called SongPal. You can do everything from the app without touch the stereo at all. I have installed few apps: TomTom GO (best GPS app with traffic, speed camera, and speed limits), DashCommand, and Spotify. The tablet cover A/C controls, I only need to lift the tablet and charge temp if I have too.
Closer look
Without the tablet.

6.5 component speakers installed. I had to trim like 1/2inch ring to make them fit. I used jigsaw with PVC saw.
Amp under the pass seat. I cut the plastic cover because the seat was grabbing it. you wont see the amp from normal seat position.

I really like the setup. My only holdout is the blocking of the climate controls, because my wife is always tweaking her side. So I wouldn't have any audio control most of the time lol.

How's the DashCommand hooked up to the car? Is it just through the radio or you had to add something to it? Seems like a pretty cool add-on. Message me what the head unit setup ran you with part/model numbers if you would. Might be something cool for me to add if I can put iLevel on it.

All, check out this link for the Dashcommand feature: http://www.palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/
It looks like it is available for Windows, Android, and iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch).
