Default 1999 Lexus LS400 key issue

Hello

I have a 1999 LS400. Unfortunately I have lost the main key (with the button fob) and only have a key that unlocks the doors (by turning it in the barrel) and turns the ignition. The engine turns with this key but does not start it.
I have spoken to the local Lexus dealer and they cannot make me a key unless I already have a working master/main key.
So, any ideas and solutions are welcome. I'm quite worried about this and need a fix.

Thank you

Default 1999 Lexus LS400 key issue

Hello

I have a 1999 LS400. Unfortunately I have lost the main key (with the button fob) and only have a key that unlocks the doors (by turning it in the barrel) and turns the ignition. The engine turns with this key but does not start it. Every time I connect the battery the alarm comes on and does not deactivate.
I have spoken to the local Lexus dealer and they cannot make me a key unless I already have a working master/main key.
I have had a key made by a local locksmith which he promised me would start the car however he is now blaming the fuel pump for not releasing fuel into the system. Every time I connect the battery, the alarm comes on and does not deactivate when I put the key into the ignition. The new key (or old one) does not unlock the door with the battery connected. The doors do unlock when the battery ios disconnected. The new key is not a fob key.
So, any ideas and solutions are welcome. I'm quite worried about this and need a fix.

Thank you

The 98+ have a transponder chip in the key. The car will not run without the matching transponder key. The car is menat to do this in the absence of that key. The direct solution is to go to a Lexus/Toyota dealer to have a new master key cut then programmed to the car.

+1. Really painful to have this situation with only one key available. That becomes lost or damaged...

I guess everyone else missed this part of your post.

You need to talk to more than one person at that dealer, because who ever it was should not be working there.
Maybe Stereorob can give you input on this deal. With the VIN any Lexus dealer can copy the key and look up the reprogramming information, and for that matter a top notch lock smith that has access to the Toyota lock info can do it as well. So you are not talking to the correct people. That is how simple your key problem is.

Agreed, he needs to talk to another at the dealer. The dealer should have access to the data for the VIN to be able to have the key cut. Don't know what data is shared with locksmiths in the UK. Stateside there are locksmiths that can program the new keys. Will have to call which locksmiths can do new key programming.

Have you tried talking to a locksmith???

Also the secondary/valet key should start the car, so you might have an unrelated 2nd problem going on there.

Unless UK cars are that different, the dealership should be able to program a new key for regardless of the current key situation, new Master keys can be designated using the factory scan tool afaik.

for 98-00 only.

I bought a viper alarm and to bypass the key situation i bought a module to bypass it so i could have remote start. that would be a cheaper option. here is a link to one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/IMMOBILIZER-...dmBdtQ&vxp=mtr
