Smile (1998 LS400) How Do I Replace the Coolant Temp Sensor?

I have the new sensor, and I believe that I've located the old one, but I'm not sure how to go about replacing it. Do I need a torque wrench? Do I need to remove the part where the air intake connects to the throttle body? Do I need to reset the ECU?

Thanks So Much,

Charles

this is covered in the Frequently Asked Questions thread, but since you're new, here is the link to the info you need. please use the FAQ next time.

the process is similar to your 98. no you don't need a torque wrench, but do not overtighten. you may need to remove the intake tube to access your ECT. yes you should reset your ECU for best results.

You need a deep well 19mm socket for the ECT sensor. A normal socket, and even some supposed "deep" sockets (I'm looking at you, Tekton) are too shallow to swallow the plastic part of the sensor and engage the metal hexagon part.

Here's a post of mine with a pic showing the sensor location on the 98-00:
