Untwisting Twisted Seatbelts...Can't get the buckles to face inboard!
Hi everyone
I cannot for the life of me untwist the front seat belts on my dad's 1990 LS400. Has anyone noticed that somehow these belts twist too easily and leave the buckle on the wrong side?
Why does this happen so easily on the LS400?
Anyway I looked up a bunch of stuff on the internet and tried the folded triangle method with no luck. Is it possible that these belts are twisted multiple times so just trying to fold the belt and pass it through the buckle will still leave you with the buckle on the wrong side.
I see you can easily unbolt the lower seatbelt anchors near the floor but undoing the long bolt and turning it around only adds an extra twist to the belt.
Another aggravating problem to deal with. Does anyone have any wisdom to offer?
Thanks!

I suspect that the top guide or lower attachment point has been removed at some point and is twisted. Can also be verified by removing the pillar cover of the belt.
I had thought the belt in ours were twisted and had tried to untwist it by folding the belt over and checking. It wasn't, I had missed the the belt was twisted at the lower guide and once righting that it was good.

this is one of my peeves on all cars when the buckle isn't facing correctly. as for retracting, that's due to the excess build up of dried sweat, dirt, and dead skin collected into the seat belt fibers making it heavier and clogging up the retracting spring. make it a habit to hand retract the belt prior to exiting the car. that way you don't slam the door shut sandwiching the buckle (cringe!). this also keeps the retracting spring happy.
