Adding Bluetooth to stock radio - could it be this easy?
Came across a product I saw awhile ago in my quest to add Bluetooth to my 98 LS400: http://www.ionaudio.com/products/det...pter-bluetooth
It is rechargeable with a 4-5 hour battery, shuts off automatically after 15 minutes, and makes no noise.
$29.00
I am about to order one and will update when received.

That's one way, I guess. I just ordered something a little different:
There's a variety of brands selling the same device on Amazon at slightly varying prices. It's fairly highly rated. Gogroove also makes several bluetooth fm receivers that are highly rated that would also work.
Amazon.com : Mpow® Streambot Y Wireless Bluetooth FM Transmitter Radio Adapter Handsfree Car Kit with Hands-Free Calling, Music Control, and Charging Port for iPhone 5S 5 5C 4S 4 iPod, Android cell phone, MP3 Players and other devices : MP3 Players & Accessories

UPDATE: got the thing in the mail yesterday.
After charging it overnight - instructions say two hours - I installed it ino the tape player. ION states 4-hour life per charge, with auto-shutoff after 15 min non-activity.
The sound is as full-spectrum as BT can be, I guess, but probably not better than direct cable from phone to audio unit. I don't have AUX on my stock unit so I cannot compare, but I have on other vehicles.
Just as the standard tape adapter, you must keep your phone at about 60-70% volume, and then you can increase the sound at the radio to a pretty good sound level - enough to satisfy with open windows and roof. If you have your phone at 100%, you'll get high-frequency "clipping"/static. Just as the standard tape adapter, you will get background humming at too high a level.
I did not notice any noise from the cassette's internal wheel mechanism.
It pairs as normal. But, I have yet to test on a walk-away and return.
I like that I don't have to cable anymore, though.
Overall, a very good value for $25.
EDIT: after a couple days of usage, I've found that - after leaving out of range and returning - it pairs only when the unit is actually turned off and then on. So, it seems like a little pain when making errands, but great for moderate to long trips.

Sounds like a decent solution for vehicles without aux in or bluetooth. Congrats.

i've been using my aux-in (switched hard-line) with a bluetooth adapter for a while now and have exactly 0 issues and the best possible quality while considering it's bluetooth.

Just arrived in the mail. Brand is the dubious moniker of Coocheer. It was the cheapest offering of this device on Amazon. There's about 4 or 5 other brands of the same device that sell for about $8 more. Easy set up. The neck is flexible so you can move it where you want. Sound quality is quite good. Charging port works. There is an occasional stutter; I'm not sure if it's related to the fm channel or what. Overall I'm very pleased.
