Default Transmission gasket...

In one of the Lexus dealer service records done by the previous owner of my LS400, it says the following:

Transmission service,
Tranny fluid T-4 .............................. $25.00
Transmission Gasket ...................$2.98

What is a transmission gasket's function, and also, is it standard procedure to change tranny gasket when doing a transmission service?

Thank you

Hey guys,

Actually don't bother with answering this. I just ran a quick search on Yahoo and found out that replacing the tranny gasket is in fact part of the standard procedure for a transmission service.

Sorry, should've done the search before posting the question, but thought maybe getting the answer on yahoo wouldn't be as easy &/or as quick.

it was a flush or fill right?? so....the gasket would be the cork piece that lines the pan then, i'm guessing.
