New LS Owner/Interior Question...91 LS
Hello all,
Picked up a 91 LS400 with 124K miles a couple of months ago and was originally going to use this car as a donor for my 79 Cressida resto project I've been itching to get off the ground for a few years now. After driving this tank of a car I couldn’t part with it and instead have started to put some money into it. So far I’ve put some SC430 wheels and have done a mild rebuild on the engine (full tune up, new thermostat, water pump, timing belt, new gaskets and seals where needed) Runs great but still needs some work, need to change the fuel filter and coil pack. Also needs a new rack and pinion and shocks/struts which I will be changing in time.
The interior is not appealing at all which brings me to my first question. I have an opportunity to buy a 94 LS with a really nice blue leather interior which I want to swap into my 91. Any idea if this is possible or should I just pass this deal up?
Also WTB one piece Celsior headlights locally if possible (located in San Diego, CA)…any info greatly appreciated.

welcome and glad you are enjoying the car instead of using it's heart for the cressida (which is still cool!). you can always get a used JDM motor from one of our many engine importers in cali!
to answer your question, all 90-94 LSs share the same interior trim so it all should swap over. of course some amenities differ like lumbar support and vertical adjustments were added to the front passenger seat in 1993 models. also front passenger SRS air bag added, and seat belt pretensioner functions were added to the front belts in cars after 1993.

i've only dealt with honda motors and state refs but i can tell you that you can pass smog with a JDM motor. it just has to have EVERYTHING from USDM motor, and pass the sniffer.
the motor can be newer, but going into the next OBD which the 2UZ is, makes it much much harder, but is not impossible!
