On my 93 LS Either my Cam Shaft Seal or Power Sterring Pump is leaking. Is there anyway to tell which one? The power steering pump is wet but it could be from the cam shaft seal since it is covered up it is kind of hard to tell? Any other ways of knowing?

 

Man, it sounds like your bought a real piece of sh*t. Just kidding of course. But your car seems to have alot of problems. Did you buy it from a dealer or private party? If a dealer sold it to you, then you should have some recourse even if it didn't come with a warranty. If it was a private party, you're probably SOL. Anyway, have the dealer take a look when they are diagnosing the other problems.

 

The power steering problem is common on first generation Lexus cars especially on the SC.

Do a search on 'power steering leak' and there are tons if posts on the subject. Most of the time you can get a seal kit for less than replacing the unit.

Your last response is about tires. The first about power steering and a cam shaft seal.

 

Clean up all questionable oil residue then inspect often. Fresh leakage will give you a much better idea where the leakage is.

 

We actually did the smell test and it was pretty obvious it is power steering fluid.
